Karhu is one of the world’s oldest sportswear brands, founded in Helsinki in 1916 — making it older than Adidas, older than Nike, and deeply rooted in Finnish athletic culture. The brand’s iconic three-stripe design was actually sold to Adidas in 1952 for the equivalent of two bottles of whiskey and around €1,600. Karhu kept its bear logo (“karhu” means bear in Finnish) and continued building some of the most respected performance gear in Scandinavia.

This winter tracksuit dates from the golden era of Karhu’s sportswear output — the 1980s to early 1990s — when Finnish athletic wear was engineered for real Nordic winters, not aesthetics. The fact that it has survived in this condition is a testament to the quality it was built with.
