Nike Air Jordan “Flight” Heavyweight Bomber Jacket — 1991 — Size XL

ThePlugOfVintage presents one of the rarest archival finds we have ever handled — an original 1991 Nike Air Jordan “Flight” heavyweight bomber jacket in near-mint condition, carrying hardware and branding that places it at the precise historical turning point between Nike and Jordan Brand. Deep teal body. Volt/lime green Jumpman embroidery. The co-branded transition tag. The original rubber Jumpman zipper pull. This is a grail — by every definition of the word.

Why This Jacket Is Exceptional — Three Archival Details

The Neck Tag — The Rarest Co-Branded “Transition” Label

The most significant archival detail on this jacket is its neck label, which represents the most important transitional moment in Jordan Brand history. On a black satin label, directly above the red Jumpman logo, the classic Nike text and Swoosh are embroidered in white thread.

In 1991 — the year Michael Jordan won his first NBA Championship with the Chicago Bulls — Nike was preparing to spin the Jordan line off into its own standalone brand. This double-branded label was in use for an extremely short window in 1991 only, before the Nike text was removed entirely and only the Jumpman remained. This tag is the missing link between Nike and Jordan Brand. There is no cleaner way to describe it.

The Original Hardware — Cast Rubber/Plastic Jumpman Zipper Pull

The jacket’s authenticity and value are sealed by its zipper: the original OG cast rubber/plastic three-dimensional Jumpman logo moulded directly onto the metal zipper body. Rubber and plastic pulls are the most vulnerable components of any vintage garment — they crack, split, and detach over decades. The fact that this jacket retains its original, intact, fully functional 1991 rubber hardware elevates it directly to the top tier of collector targets. This was Nike’s equivalent of the revolutionary moulded components on the Air Jordan VI.

Material, Cut & Silhouette

This is not a thin mesh jacket. It is constructed from a heavyweight 65% polyester / 35% cotton blend — structured, substantial, and perfectly shape-retaining. The archival silhouette is a direct predecessor of contemporary high-end streetwear (Balenciaga, Yeezy, Fear of God): heavy drop shoulders, massive underarm volume, and a fitted waist rib that creates a perfect boxy, heavily draped profile.

The colourway — deep teal body with electric volt/lime green Jumpman embroidery — was Nike’s early experimental 90s aesthetic at its most daring, and makes this jacket significantly more desirable than conventional red/black versions.

Condition

9/10 — Near Mint / Grail Condition

  • Exceptional archival condition — this jacket presents as essentially unworn
  • Fabric has retained its structure and original fine sheen
  • Ribs are tight and fully intact
  • Colours are at full vibrancy — both the deep teal and volt green are outstanding
  • Original care labels and registration number RN 56323 are fully legible
  • Original rubber/plastic Jumpman zipper pull is intact and fully functional
  • The only reason this is a 9 rather than a 10 is the absence of original hang tags — the garment itself is flawless
  • No stains, no tears, no odour, no structural damage of any kind

A 1991 co-branded Nike/Jordan transition-tag bomber in near-mint condition with original rubber hardware and a volt/teal colourway. This is what grails look like.

All items at ThePlugOfVintage are thoroughly inspected, documented, and photographed before listing. Any known flaws or imperfections are always disclosed in the product description — we believe in full transparency, because that’s the standard serious collectors deserve.

We kindly ask that you read the product description carefully and take time to review all provided images before purchasing. Our goal is to present every flaw and detail as accurately as possible — so you know exactly what you’re getting.

That said, vintage garments carry decades of history, and occasional minor signs of age, wear, or natural material changes may exist beyond what even a careful inspection can detect. If you have any specific condition questions, we are always happy to present the item personally upon request.

Every piece we list is sold as-is, as a vintage item.
