ThePlugOfVintage presents an extremely rare early 1990s Umbro jacket, produced for the Nordic market by Sultrade OY — Finland’s most significant sports importer and manufacturer of the era. Visually in near-mint condition, with a light wadding lining, white quilted inner, and a striking colour palette of lilac, pink, green and black. The zipper pull is a solid metal square Umbro logo. A perfect jacket for autumn or cooler weather.

Sultrade OY — The Finnish Connection

Founded in 1974, Oy Sultrade Ltd is one of the most significant and successful sports importers and manufacturers in Finnish history. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Sultrade made a major strategic move by acquiring the Umbro brand rights and distribution for Finland.

This partnership produced something genuinely special. Global brands of that era gave their strongest licensees considerable creative freedom. Because Sultrade knew the cold and variable Nordic climate, they didn’t simply import the thin windbreakers designed for British football pitches. Instead, their team commissioned and manufactured part of the collection with a light wadding lining — adding Nordic functionality to the Umbro silhouette. The result is a garment built for Finland, not for Wembley.

In early 90s Finland, Sultrade’s Umbro was a cultural phenomenon — dominating football pitches and the rising youth scene simultaneously. This jacket sits precisely at that crossroads: football heritage meeting club and rave culture, at the exact moment sportswear moved permanently into streetwear.

• Visually near-mint — the jacket presents as essentially unworn
• Colours fully vivid and retained
• Zipper functions perfectly
• One flaw to note: the plastic reinforcement on the zipper tape at the bottom of the zip (the counterpart to the zipper pull) has a small tear — visible in the last product image. The zipper itself works completely and this does not affect wearability.

• No stains, no odour, no structural damage
